Nereus Alumni Thomas Fröelicher (ETH Zurich) gave a joint seminar at the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology in Hamburg, Hungary, on June 8th.

The seminar argued for the importance of the Southern Ocean in moderating climate change while challenging the notion of the Equatorial Region being the most significant in regulating global warming. Fröelicher also presented his case for greater understanding of the geographic structure of ocean heat uptake and its role in global warming response to cumulative carbon emissions.

The Max Planck Society, which oversees the Institute, is a non-governmental, non-profit association of German research institutes which supports research in natural and life sciences, among other areas.
