Nereus is hosting a side-event entitled No Fish Left Behind: Fisheries Under BBNJ. It is being held as a part of the Second Session of the Intergovernmental Conference on an International Legally Binding Instrument Under the UNCLOS on the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Marine Biological Diversity of Areas Beyond National Jurisdiction
Date and time of the event is Monday 25 March from 1:15 – 2:30PM in Conference Rm 12 of the UN Headquarter.
The Nereus speakers are Guillermo Ortuño Crespo (Duke University), Richard Caddell (Cardiff University) and Solène Guggisberg (Utrecht University), with Wilf Swartz (Dalhousie University) as the moderator.
Objective: To explore the opportunities to support and complement existing regimes of fisheries management in areas beyond national jurisdiction (ABNJ). Participants will identify key provisions that should be integrated in the UN binding agreement that can strengthen and improve fisheries management. This will help to set the scene for ongoing negotiations and help develop practical proposals for how a new instrument might interact with and bolster fisheries management.
