Nereus research fellows Harriet Harden-Davies (University of Wollongong/ANCORS) and Guillermo Ortuño Crespo (Duke University) are participating in the ‘One Ocean’ Symposium on August 24th, 2019 at the Scandinavian House, 58 Park Ave, New York, NY 10016. At the symposium, participants such as delegates, academics, policy makers, and NGOs will discuss “key issues for the United Nation’s proposed treaty on conservation and sustainable use of marine biological diversity in Areas Beyond National Jurisdiction (ABNJ).” Guillermo will be giving a morning presentation entitled ‘Beyond static spatial management: scientific and legal considerations for dynamic spatial management in the High Seas’, and Harriet will be presenting during an afternoon workshop on ‘The Rights of Nature: exploring potential applications to marine biodiversity beyond national jurisdiction’.
