Nereus Program alumnus Robert Blasiak (Stockholm Resilience Centre, Stockholm University) will be joining Kristian Teleki (Head of Secretariat, High Level Panel for a Sustainable Ocean Economy, World Resources Institute), H.E. Ms. Ngedikes Olai Uludong (Permanent Representative of Palau to the United Nations and High Level Panel Sherpa) and other HLP Blue Paper co-authors (including Colette Wabnitz – UBC) and panelists for the webinar “The Ocean Genome: Challenges and Opportunities” on April 24, 2020 at 11:00am (EDT) (16:00 BST). The participants will discuss their recent paper that focuses on “current challenges faced by the ocean genome and provides a clear pathway to overcome them.”

The paper’s authors will discuss how unique marine genetic diversity can be protected, how benefits can be more equitably distributed, and what the implications are for policymakers and international agreements, such as the new agreement on the conservation and sustainable use of marine biodiversity of areas beyond national jurisdiction (BBNJ). Registration is through the World Resources Institute, and you can register for free here.
