Written by Nereus Fellow Julia Mason,
Julia Mason will serve as a John A. Knauss fellow in Massachusetts Senator Ed Markey’s office for 2019. Run through the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Sea Grant, the one-year fellowship matches recent graduates in oceans, coastal, or Great Lakes fields with host offices in the US legislature or executive agencies. Julia is looking forward to joining Senator Markey’s team, where she will work on a variety of issues related to the oceans and environment. Senator Markey is particularly active on climate issues at the Chair of the Senate Climate Change Task Force, and this year may also bring opportunities to work on major fisheries legislation. The fellowship position starts in early February, by which time she hopes the government will have reopened.
